Cedar dugout canoes lined the shore of Fidalgo Bay last Wednesday when Coast Salish paddlers stopped to enjoy the hospitality of the Samish Indian Nation during the 2009 Tribal Canoe Journey. “It’s a really, really great day for the tribe and the community,” said Samish Tribal Chairman Tom Wooten as he watched his guests help themselves to clams. “It’s a wonderful thing for our people,” said Samish General Manager Leslie Eastwood.
