Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Cape Wind Associates LLC today signed the lease for a wind farm off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the first in U.S. waters. Cape Wind would generate enough power to meet 75 percent of demand for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island, the Interior Department said today in a statement. The developer has said it would buy turbines from Siemens AG of Germany, which pledged to open a U.S. office in Boston.
