Carolyn Louis Akiyama has been ordered to stand trial on two felony perjury charges. Akiyama, 41, also faces charges of trying to hire a hit man to kill a former tribal council member and his wife. She has argued that the murder solicitation charges should be dismissed, saying she was wrongly entrapped by police and that her confession wasn't made freely.

The perjury charges allege that during bond hearings in September and November, Akiyama lied when she told the court she had only lived on the reservation. Authorities said she also has lived in Midland County. Because the perjury charges arise out of a capital case, solicitation of murder carries a potential life sentence, they also carry potential life sentences if she is convicted. She has been jailed since April on a $600,000 bond.
