The organizers of the Sacramento Walk of Stars announced today, June 21st, that Olympian Billy Mills will be among the 2017 honorees selected to have a sidewalk star in the Handle District on L Street in Midtown Sacramento. The stars will be installed September 28.
The terrazzo and bronze monument stars will be installed in the sidewalk across the street from the first-year inductee stars of Dr. Ernie Bodai, LeVar Burton, Gregory Kondos and Debbie Meyer. Following this year’s installation, L Street between 18th and 19th street will be the city’s first official block featuring the Sacramento Walk of Stars. This year's recipients are Olympian Billy Mills, Tower Records founder Russ Solomon and WNBA star and Olympian Ruthie Bolton.
Olympic Gold medalist Billy Mills and Entrepreneur Russ Solomon joined City Councilmember Steve Hansen, Sacramento Walk of Stars Chair Lucy Eidam Crocker and other program organizers at the news conference today to make the announcement.
"I am humbled to be recognized on the Sacramento Walk of Stars,” said Billy Mills at the news conference. “About 45 years ago, my wife and I chose to move to Sacramento to raise our children because of its many recreational and intellectual opportunities. We were welcomed into the community. We have been blessed."
Sacramento Walk of Stars Chair Lucy Eidam Crocker also shared the line-up of this year’s activities in a release. “We’ll follow today’s unveiling with an additional star announcement plus more details about the annual VIP and gala reception in the coming months. We’re thankful to this year’s supporters who helped us to honor the second-year inductees.”
The Sacramento Walk of Stars is a program that recognizes the incredible accomplishments of some of Sacramento’s most notable people who were raised or lived in the Sacramento region. The non-profit organization is spearheaded by community leaders and volunteers.
