A former manager at the pueblo's Sky City Casino some 50 miles west of Albuquerque, N.M., has been sentenced to three years' supervised probation after pleading guilty earlier this year to a charge of misdemeanor theft, federal officials said. Vernon L. Lowery of Las Vegas, Nev., was sentenced May 14 before U.S. District Judge C. LeRoy Hansen. Lowery, 43, was ordered to serve four months of community confinement followed by four months of home confinement and pay $1,799 restitution to the pueblo. He had pleaded guilty in February to theft from an American Indian tribal organization. He worked as general manager of the casino from December 1996 to March 1997. In September 1999, a federal grand jury in Albuquerque charged him with embezzling cash and merchandise from the casino.
