The U.S. Attorney for South Dakota today will unveil a public safety initiative for Native American reservations that he says could lower violent crime in tribal communities by increasing prosecution. The new Community Prosecution Strategy for Indian Country is designed to reduce high crime rates on many of the state's nine reservations, according to U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson. In the process, it may also improve the high prosecution declination rates that have historically existed in the office he has headed since October 2009.
