Oneida city officials met with their Oneida Indian Nation counterparts Monday to discuss the nation-owned factory that has been assembling and packaging cigarettes since October. As state officials threatened to crack down on untaxed cigarettes Sept.1, the nation announced its plans to relocate its cigarette manufacturing plant from Western New York to the tribe’s ancestral land in Madison County. The move was designed to put the nation’s cigarette sales beyond the reach of the state tax department.
