Onawa Indian casino suspends operations

Author:

The Omaha tribe on Tuesday indefinitely shut down Casino Omaha, a tribal-owned gambling facility near Onawa in western Iowa. The suspension of operations forced the layoffs of 185 casino employees, about 95 percent of whom are Omaha tribal members, officials said. The Omaha tribe is based in Macy, Neb., but the casino is on tribal land on the Iowa side of the Missouri River.
