Oglala Lakota Man Reclaims His Health in Documentary ‘Good Meat’

Good Meat reveals how a former high school star athlete, who became obese after years of poor diet and lack of exercise, reclaimed his health by returning to his traditional Oglala Lakota diet.

Produced by Sam Hurst and programmed by Native American Public Telecommunications, the documentary tracks 35-year-old Beau LeBeau struggling to walk the hills he used to run on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Weighing in at 333 pounds at the start of the film, LeBeau discovers he has Type II Diabetes, a disease that lead to his mother's death at a young age.

LeBeau adopts the traditional Lakota diet centered on buffalo, and with regular exercise, "sheds pounds and encourages others to do the same despite their rebuttals," according to the film's website. Throughout his journey, LeBeau works with Dr. Kevin Weiland and nutritionist Kibbe Conti (Oglala Lakota) to regain his health.
