Nez Perce National Historic Trail Projects Look to Public for Inspiration

The Nez Perce are looking to enhance the experience along the Nez Perce Historic Trail (NPNHT) in Idaho and are reaching out to the public for inspiration. The public is encouraged to propose projects designed to improve and enhance the visitor's experience along the trail. The submitted projects are going to be considered for the 2012 project year funding, which was made available through funds designated to administer the NPNHT. All completed applications must be post marked by November 30, 2011.

"The purpose of the Challenge Cost Share Program (CCSP) is to increase participation by qualified partners in the preservation and improvement of federally managed natural, cultural, and recreational resources," a press release stated. "In all authorized programs and activities; and on national trails. The Forest Service and partners should work together on CCSP projects with mutually beneficial and shared outcomes."

The CCSP is matching fund program, meaning an equal amount of cash, goods or services from non-federal sources is required. The maxium CCSP award is currently set at $30,000.

Project application forms and instructions for completing the application are available at the Nez Perce National Historic Trail website here, or from the Nez Perce National Historic Trail Administrator, located at the Clearwater National Forest Supervisors Office in Orofino, Idaho.
