SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. - Santa Ana Star Casino won an unprecedented seven Romero Marketing Awards for excellence in casino marketing at the fifth-annual Casino Marketing Conference in Las Vegas, Nev. It was the only casino from New Mexico to be nominated and receive the honors.
Santa Ana Star Casino competed in the ;'large casino'' category against some of the best known casino brands in the country including Harrah's, Barona Valley Resort, and others. It received two Diamond Awards for the public relations campaign ''This is MY Casino,'' and for the Web site campaign ''Star@Home.'' It received a Gold Award for the ''YOUR Say, YOUR Way'' campaign, and two Silver Awards for the Web site campaign ''Virtual Drawings'' and the e-mail campaign ''Star Rewards Prize Notifications.'' In addition, Santa Ana Star Casino was honored by two Honorable Mentions for the casino floor promotion ''Car-A-Day-In-May'' and for the V.I.P. event ''NOON and NEW Year's Eve Luaus.''

The Romero Awards, named after casino marketing pioneer and author John Romero, honor gaming operators who best fulfill the spirit of Romero's 45-year effort for effective, measurable and accountable casino marketing expenditures. Each year, a panel of judges, chaired by Romero himself, selects winners for their excellence in casino marketing.
