New Echota State Historic Site to Offer Genealogy Class


Leslie Barker Thomas, who has been doing historical research for the past 15 years, will host a genealogy class July 28 at the New Echota State Historic Site, one mile east of 1-75, exit 317 on GA Hwy 225 N in Georgia.

Thomas is vice president of the Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Associate, president of the Gilmer County Historical Society, a board member of the Chieftains Museum in Rome, a board member for the Gilmer County Genealogy Society and an editor for several newsletters.

Genealogy has been a hobby of hers for the past 35 years and she's spent countless hours helping others track down their Native American ancestors. For more information on this presentation, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon call 706-624-1321. The fee is $20, which covers handouts and admission to the site.
