NCAI Seeks to Fund New Super Bowl Ad; Goal Set at $20,000

The National Congress of American Indians plan to release a new video condeming the name of the Washington football team during the Super Bowl next year, according to a press release.

The organization has created a Kickstarter page asking people to donate to the cause. A video was added to encourage donations.

"Join the effort and in return get a great t-shirt [sic] that sends a message on its own, to 'REPLACE,' 'RENAME,' or 'RETHINK' the derogatory name of the Washington, D.C. NFL team," the website reads.

NCAI has just 10 days left to raise $20,000 to fund the new Super Bowl ad, according to figures on the page.

A 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl costs an estimated $4 million, according to a story written by advertising agent Rob Siltanen for Forbes.

Prior to Super Bowl XLVIII in February, the Change the Mascot campaign, in association with NCAI, launched the video, "Proud To Be," which went viral soon after its release. The video also aired during the NBA Finals in June.

That same month, the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board cancelled six of the Washington football team's seven trademarks after concluding the team name is "disparaging to Native Americans."
