Navajo Technical College will be sending five cross-country runners to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) cross-country national championships this weekend at Mount VanHoevenberg in Lake Placid, NY to compete against schools from across the country November 8 – 9.

Competing for Navajo Tech will be first year runners Byron Dawes of Dalton Pass, NM, Tyson Ramone of Smithlake, NM, Jerald Platero of Crownpoint, NM, and Julius Johnson of Window Rock, AZ, as well as returning team leader, Eric Bailey of Window Rock, AZ.

Bailey has paced the Skyhawks this year after NTC lost it’s two top runners from last year, Dwight Carlston and McKenzie Martin. But even with the loss of Carlston and Martin, cross-country coach Yolanda Todecheenie, expects great things from the team.

“They’ve all improved so much since the first meet in Alamosa and I’m very proud of them,” said NTC cross-country coach, Yolanda Todecheenie. “Eric has really improved and has been holding the team together making sure the team runs together in the morning and the evening.”
