We generally have a joke or two for your weekly Native humor funny bone, but this very special photograph of President Obama is a genuine Native Humor moment.
Pete Souza, the Chief Official White House Photographer, says “One of the best and most challenging aspects of my job is whittling down a year’s worth of photographs to the final selections for my annual Year in Photographs.” For 2015, that selection includes President Obama’s infamous “Salmon Spawn” moment from when the president visited Alaska last year.
In November of 2015, President Obama laughingly told Tribal leaders at the White House Tribal Nations Conference that having a salmon he picked up when talking with two Alaskan women spawn all over his shoes was a memorable moment. At the conference he said, “they told me the salmon was just happy to see me.”

Sept. 2, 2015 “’He was just excited to see you,’ one of the salmon fisherwoman exclaimed after a salmon spawned on the President’s feet at Kanakanak Beach in Bristol Bay, Alaska.”
