A man working on a new hotel at the Mohegan Sun casino fell about 25 stories to his death Sept. 24. He was part of a crew working on the new, $1.1 billion Sunburst project, a casino, hotel, entertainment, retail and restaurant complex, scheduled for a grand opening the following day. He fell from about the 25th floor of the 34-story hotel tower about 7 p.m., casino officials said. The 1,200-room luxury hotel portion of the project is not scheduled to open until next April. Earlier in September, Steve Almony, a safety supervisor on the job, said more than 5 million work hours had been completed at the Mohegan Sun site without serious incident. State police said a second worker received minor injuries but had no further details. 'It is an unfortunate tragedy,' Tribal Chairman Mark Brown told The Day of New London. 'But, at this point, I have no facts in front of me. We don't know what happened.'
