Mohawks unhappy with Paterson plan to collect tax

Akwesasne Mohawks want Gov. David A. Paterson to butt out of their businesses. Or at least, they want to be consulted before he makes decisions about enforcing state tax laws on Indian land. "I guess I'm not surprised the state's attempting to collect the taxes," said Justin Tarbell, president of the Akwesasne Convenience Store Association. "I am surprised Gov. Paterson has not kept his word to try to come to a bi-lateral agreement."
