Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians, Minnesota

Herb Weyaus has been reelected secretary-treasurer of the band. Weyaus received 311 votes and his opponent, David Matrious, finished with 245 in the Nov. 8 election. He had served two years of a four-year term in the office, but resigned to run for chief executive, a post won by Melanie Benjamin earlier this year. Subsequently he was named interim secretary-treasurer until the election. He will serve until the regularly scheduled band elections in June 2002. In his office, Weyaus is the band's chief financial officer and speaker of the Band Assembly, its legislative branch of government.
