LAPWAI, Idaho (AP) – The Nez Perce Tribe has a new executive director.
Rebecca Miles is stepping down from her elected position on the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee to take over the post.
Miles, a Washington State University graduate, has occupied several positions since 2004 on the executive committee, including chairwoman.
As executive director, the mother of two is responsible for day-to-day management of the tribe’s government based in Lapwai on the Nez Perce Reservation.
The reservation includes parts of Nez Perce, Lewis, Idaho, and Clearwater counties in northcentral Idaho, with a total land area of 1,195 square miles.
The reservation’s population is about 18,000 people.
