Greyeyes’ character is a former tribal attorney who becomes the proverbial chief of the Hopi Tribe from the Black Hat Reservation. In the series, Qaletaqa Walker oversees a longfought struggle between members of his tribe and local ranchers who have long sought to develop sacred burial grounds. When the apocalypse spreads, not only do members of the tribe fight zombies, but they wage war against the ranchers in the absence of federal law and anarchy.

According to Greyeyes, “It is such a boss role and the response from the community is so great. They are like, 'It's about time!' It is huge. Lots of Indians love the show.

“When I told my friend Alex Wright from Kahnawake who is a fantastic actress, she said, 'Indians are the best survivors, they are built for the apocalypse. If there is anybody that could survive this it's going to be us.'"

Though it may be a bloody role, Greyeyes lives up to his character’s name. Qaletaqa means "Guardian of the People" in the Hopi language.
