Masselow’s Restaurant Receives Four Diamond Award

Black and white photos on the walls of Masselow's Restaurant at Northern Quest Resort & Casino gives diners a glimpse into the history of the Kalsipel Tribe. This tribe of semi-nomadic hunters, fishermen and diggers were often called the "river/lake paddlers," while French traders called them "The People of the Pend Oreille," referring to the large shell earrings that tribe frequently wore and their location along the Pend Oreille River. The restaurant gets its name from Chief Masselow, who followed his father, Chief Victor, to the chieftainship in 1887. Today the tribe is 400 members strong, living in their ancestral homelands in Pend Oreille County in eastern Washington state. They are also the proud recipients of the esteemed AAA Four Diamond Award for their ancient chief's namesake restaurant, the only restaurant in eastern Washington to be honored with the distinction.

Masselow's Restaurant offers Northwest contemporary cuisine with a fusion of traditional and modern dishes and a significant wine list featuring the region's excellent varietals. Dishes such as the cougar gold cheddar arancini, which is a smoked speck with spicy Wenatchee apple ragout, and elk sirloin served with shiitake fennel fondue and herbed goat cheese have won the restaurant raves. Wild salmon with apple cherry chutney and fresh greens, red kuri squash and apple ravioli with fontina cheese and sage browned butter are favorites. Ending a meal with chocolate oblivion, white chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis will send anyone home contented beyond reason.

Masselow's just opened in 2010 along with the $200 million hotel expansion last January. The restaurant is modeled after the Kalispel Reservation, and servers not only greet each patron with a gift from the Kalispel people via an amuse bouche, they also say hello in the native Salish language.
