Mashpee tribe wins federal education grant

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has won a grant it hopes will push more of its young people toward a college education. The $1.2 million grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education through its Office of Indian Education Demonstration Grant program, will fund a program called Native Tribal Scholars. Though it was sponsored in part by the Mashpee tribe, the program is open to all Indian students in Massachusetts, Wood said.
