Mashpee Wampanoag chairman Cedric Cromwell said this week that Congress needs to act by this fall to restore the process for tribes to put land into federal trust. In testimony before Larry EchoHawk, the newly appointed assistant secretary for Indian Affairs, Cromwell said a February decision by the U.S. Supreme Court leaves the Wampanoag landless and unable to help tribe members.
