When fire heavily damaged an 1840s-era building in Mystic, Conn., the tribe was quick to offer warehouse space for affeced merchants to store merchandise and fixtures. The fire in early March heavily damaged the building that contained a quaint line of shops a few blocks from the pizza parlor made famous in the Julia Roberts move, Mystic Pizza. Eight businesses were ruined or damaged but the fire did not take the whole block and no one was injured. Investigators determined a furnace started the fire. Area ventures, including Foxwoods Casino, are looking forward to an upsurge in tourism this summer because of the Op Sail tall ships event and the launch of the slave ship Armistad, whose story was made into a Steven Spielberg movie.
