March Madness Gets Real: The Sensational Schimmel Sisters Lead Louisville Against Middle Tennessee State

A story about the University of Louisville playing Middle Tennessee State in the first round of the NCAA women's basketball tournament, with the Cardinals being led by Native sisters Jude and Shoni Schimmel.

Enjoying a favorable home court advantage, the No. 5-seeded Cardinals will host 12th-seed Middle Tennessee State (25-7, 17-3 Sun Belt) at the KFC Yum! Center in the first round of NCAA Tournament on Sunday, March 24, at approximately 2:30 p.m. E.T. in a game televised on ESPN2 (check your local listings).

Louisville (24-8, 11-5 in the Big East Conference) is making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh appearance in the last eight years. U of L enters the tournament ranked 16th in the nation after finishing tied for third in the Big East conference and advancing to the Big East Tournament semifinals. The Cardinals have reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in three of the past five seasons.

Directing the Cardinals is All-Big East junior point guard Shoni Schimmel, who leads the team in scoring and assists with 13.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. Super sixth-woman is sister Jude Schimmel, a sophomore who is second on the team with 2.8 assists per game. The Schimmel sisters are from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon.
