LUMMI NATION, Wash. – Silver Reef Hotel Casino and Spa’s expansion opened Dec. 9, its third expansion since 2002.

The 9,079-square-foot expansion brings the total square footage to 135,779. The expansion contains 200 more slot machines, bringing the casino’s total to 875. It also contains The Pizzanini, an Italian-themed restaurant; and The Barista, a specialty-coffee cafe. The expansion cost $8.6 million and created 11 new jobs, for a total workforce of 566 employees.

The Silver Reef has emerged as an important entertainment venue in the region. Besides gaming, it offers 101 deluxe rooms, four suites, meeting space and an indoor pool; concerts, dinner theater and sports events; six restaurants; and a spa and fitness center.

The Silver Reef’s expansion is timely as well; it is located about 50 miles from the nearest venue for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C.
