The tribe has received a $15,000 financial boost from the annual economic development efforts of Golden West Companies. That brings the total received by the tribe over the past four years to $60,000 and is part of $200,000 set aside annually for local development programs by the Wall-based telephone, cable television and Internet company. Smaller $5,000 donations will go to 23 other communities in Golden West service areas across the state with $15,000 earmarked for each of the three tribal organizations served by Golden West. Its economic development program has directed nearly $800,000 into local development efforts since its creation four years ago plus another $115,000 in scholarships for area students. 'Our success as a company rests upon the future of a lot of communities including areas like the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation,' said Golden West Companies General Manager George Strandell, 'so I'm happy that the board of directors voted to fund the program again this year.'
