The Cherokee Nation recently chose its Little Cherokee Ambassadors for 2011. Of 14 children ages 4 to 12, five were chosen in three different age groups to represent the tribe.

Participants answered questions about Cherokee history and culture and demonstrated traditional show and tell items for a panel of judges and an audience.

“I am amazed each year how eager our youth are to learn our Cherokee culture and language,” said Mandy Scott, event coordinator, in a press release. “As Little Cherokee Ambassadors they will spend the upcoming year representing Cherokee Nation and being present at many different events throughout the year, including the Cherokee National Holiday parade. I know the ambassadors will represent our tribe well.”

Ambassadors in the 4 to 6 age group are Lilli Jo Jordan and Hayden Girty. Winners in the 7 to 9 age division are Sammie Girty and Maggie Welsh. Finally, in the 10 to 12 age group, Cierra Fields was chosen to represent the Cherokee Nation.
