A frozen turkey and a $500 check brightened the holidays for several members of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma on Thursday, when the tribe handed out annual checks for elders. The 12,000-member Kiowa Tribe, which is based in Carnegie in southwest Oklahoma, has several tribal members who live in the Tulsa area. The tribe set aside $80,000 this year so each tribal member 65 and older in the Tulsa area could receive a $500 check from the tribe, said tribal Chairman Don Tofpi.
