In a disappointing but not surprising move, the U.S. Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling on rejecting American Indians’ challenge to the Washington Redskin’s trademark on the use of the football team’s nickname. That nickname, “Redskin,” perpetuates racial stereotypes toward American Indians. It describes them as less than human beings.
The court ruling should not deter people who want to get rid of a nickname that shows American Indians in a derogatory form.
