Journey to Augusta National Golf Club and The Masters Tournament Starts for Kids at Turning Stone

PRESS RELEASE -- After an incredibly successful inaugural year of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association (USGA) and the PGA of America have announced the expansion of the youth golf competition into all 50 states, and Turning Stone Resort will host a local qualifier, Tuesday, July 8, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Registration is free, and open to boys and girls, ages 7-15.

Top finishers at the local level will advance to sub-regional qualifying in August, then on to regional qualifying, and finally, the top performers in the nation will earn a spot in the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship Final to be held at the famed Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, to kickoff The Masters Tournament week, April 5, 2015. The championship final will be nationally televised by The Golf Channel.

“Turning Stone Resort is thrilled to be hosting a local qualifying event for the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship,” said Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation Representative and CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises. “This event is for any youngster, no matter their skill level, who wants to enjoy a unique golf experience. I strongly encourage parents to register their youngsters today and tell their friends that this type of fun golf competition can create lasting memories for all families.”

“It was amazing to be on-site at Augusta National this past April and see the faces of the 88 participants and everyone involved in coordinating the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship,” said Ted Bishop, President of The PGA of America. “Our PGA Professionals will continue to play a vital role in administering the local and regional events and we are looking forward to again working alongside The Masters and the USGA.”

Local youth golfers, boys and girls ages 7-15, can compete in this exciting event at Turning Stone, July 8. Participants will be placed in separate divisions in four age categories. Each participant will compete in all three skills (Drive, Chip and Putt,) and will accumulate points in each skill. The top three overall point-earners in each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions from the four age brackets will advance to the sub-regional qualifying round of the competition, to be held in Schenectady, New York, in August.

Registration is now open for the July 8 local qualifying event at Turning Stone. Participants must have their parent or guardian complete the online entry application at Entries are limited to 200 participants per local qualifying site and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional information and eligibility requirements:

Boys and girls compete in separate divisions in four age categories: 7-9 years old; 10-11 years old; 12-13 years old; and 14-15 years old. Participants will be grouped based on their age as of the national finals on April 5, 2015. Entries must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the date five (5) days prior to the local qualifier.

The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship Committee reserves the right to make changes to the qualifying process and all decisions are final.
