Jawbone might be ‘hundreds’ of years old

A jawbone found by a beachcomber at the mouth of the San Bernard River in August likely is that of an American Indian or another civilization, officials said. A 23-year-old Houston woman discovered the bone, complete with teeth and what police initially thought were fillings, on Aug. 1. Separated from the rest of the skull at the jaw hinge, the complete bottom jawbone is darkened but not battered or covered with barnacles.
