With the release of her new album, “New Moon Born,” Jana Mashonee, Grammy nominee, seven-time Native American Music Award winner and founder of Jana’s Kids, is searching for recipients for the third annual Jana’s Kids Educational Scholarship for Native youth.

The scholarship is the only one of its kind in the United States awarded to Native Youth for academic, artistic or athletic achievement. Jana’s Kids, a nonprofit organization, was formed in 2005 to help Native youth achieve their dreams.

All proceeds from Jana’s new single of the Sam Cooke classic, “A Change is Gonna Come” will go towards Jana’s Kids Scholarships. The scholarship application for high school seniors can be downloaded from Jana’s Web site; or can be sent by e-mail request.

On Jan. 20, Jana performed “A Change is Gonna Come” featuring Juno award winner Derek Miller, at the American Indian Inaugural Ball accompanied by the video for the single. On Feb. 20, the video received the Award of Merit from The Indie Fest Film Festival in La Jolla, Calif.

In winning an Indie, Jana joins the ranks of other high profile winners of this internationally respected award. Indie Fest Chairman Thomas Baker, Ph.D. had this to say about the winners, “The Indie is not an easy award to win. The Indie helps set the standard for craft and creativity.”

Jana’s new album, “New Moon Born”, a compelling blend of R&B, soul and pop is slated for release on April 15, having recently been sent out to radio.
