Jana Performs at Congressional Club's First Lady's Luncheon

ONEIDA NATION HOMELANDS, N.Y. ñ Jana, a three-time Native American Music Awards recipient, performed at the Congressional Clubís First Ladyís Luncheon on April 27 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.

She has also performed at the 2001 presidential inaugural ball and during opening ceremonies for a crowd of more than 70,000 people at the 2001 Boy Scouts National Jamboree.

When she isnít performing for D.C.ís elite and others, Janaís touring schedule takes her throughout the United States and Europe.

The Lumbee singer is busy on the musical scene and has been recognized for various awards.

She has been nominated by this yearís NAMMY committee for Artist of the Year and Record of the Year. The debut album ìFlash of a Fireflyî earned Jana this yearís nominations. Her first single, ìWhat I Am to You,î entered the Top 40 on the Radio & Records chart. Her follow up song, ìOoh, Baby Baby,î premiered on other charts.

Her ìAmerican Indian Christmasî album also is up for the Best Producer award and was recorded under the Oneida Indian Nationís Standing Stone Records label.

Previously christened Female Artist of the Year by the NAMMYs, Jana was also named the associationís Best Pop Performer in 2001 for her dance single ìMore Than Life,î which was remixed by MTVís DJ Skribble and collaborator Anthony Acid.

The following year, her remake of Led Zeppelinís ìStairway to Heavenî climbed to No. 6 on the Billboard charts and was named Song of the Year at the 2002 NAMMY Awards.

The 2006 NAMMYs will be held June 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
