The history of American Indians includes words and wisdom passed down through the generations since time immemorial. All tribal nations and cultures on Turtle Island, such as the Navajo, Cherokee, Hopi, Anishinabe, Iroquois and Ute (among many others), shared and preserved proverbs, philosophies and humorous sayings. The wisdom of eloquent speakers and thinkers was also greatly valued, and new interpretations and sayings continue to be coined and treasured.
