Intertribal Youth Trip to Northern California

A group of Native American youth recently explored Northern California meeting with tribal leaders and learning along the way.

From July 20 to 24 the Intertribal Youth organization held a Northern California Education Adventure that took the group from Berkeley, to the Klamath River, to the Hoopa Reservation, and to San Francisco and Alcatraz. This video, posted July 31 by the organization, shows some of the trip enjoyed by eighth through 12th grade students.

Highlights of the trip included wildlife observation, river rafting, academic guidance and a college preparation workshop, as well as cultural education with Northern California tribal leaders from Hupa, Yurok, Karuk and Wiyot. Students also learned about nutrition and wellness, as well as indigenous science.
