The U.S. Interior Department has cleared a significant backlog in oil and gas royalty payments on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., said Wednesday. The action, which clears the way to distribute about $5 million in royalties to the Three Affiliated Tribes and individuals on the reservations, follows several months of prodding by Dorgan, chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.
