My hesitation in renewing my subscription to Indian Country Today vanished when I read the article “From Colombia, grateful U’was remember Ingrid Washinawatok El-Issa” [Vol. 28 No. 45] My sister met Ingrid at a conference and instantly loved her. Like many, she was devastated by Ingrid’s assassination.
Two summers ago, my sister, who suffers from systemic lupus, called me basically in major depression and pain. After listening to her tell how she’d lost her interest in living, I took a deep breath and asked if she’d been to Ingrid’s Flying Eagle Woman Web site.
Awhile later my sister called back and said, “At first, I cried when I saw Ingrid’s smiling face, then I realized if she was martyred and I was alive then there must be some additional purpose to my life.”
So, I am also grateful to Ingrid Washinawatok El-Issa for the wonderful inspiration she’s able to stir in people and to your staff for printing the article.
