South Dakota's long legal fight with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe over the tribe's ability to buy land and place it in federal trust could affect tribal economic development across the country. From 1990 until 2006, when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case, the state pursued litigation against Lower Brule, which put 91 acres along Interstate 90 at Oacoma into trust.
