A tribe near Warner Springs recently was awarded two grants worth a total of about $387,000 to improve its fledgling police department. The Los Coyotes Band of Mission Indians received a $201,000 grant through the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services to hire a police officer to patrol the reservation, said David Sossaman, chief of the Los Coyotes Police Department.
