ICTMN’s Vincent Schilling Discusses Columbus Day on HuffPo LiveStream

ICTMN’s Arts and Entertainment editor Vincent Schilling (Akwesasne Mohawk) was invited to speak about Columbus and Columbus Day on Monday alongside Huffington Post editor Jessica Carro in Washington DC.

During the livestream interview Schilling discussed the unknown, unsavory history of Christopher Columbus as well as violent atrocities committed by Columbus and his men.

He also spoke about his widely shared ICTMN article on Columbus.

After Carro warned viewers the subject matter was “not for children,” Schilling discussed what we know about the atrocities thanks to Columbus’ own description of them. He pointed to one letter from 1500 as an example in which Columbus wrote:

“A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand.”
