House introduces minority health resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Delegate Donna M. Richardson, D-Virgin Islands, introduced a resolution on April 25 that would bring attention to minority health care issues.

The resolution calls for the establishment of a National Minority Health and Health Disparities Month. The resolution is co-sponsored by Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Ga., and Rep. J.C. Watts, R-Okla.

The measure could help create interest in American Indian healthcare issues, like underfunding at the Indian Health Service and the diabetes epidemic in Indian country, with the general public.

Watts, in particular, has a large American Indian constituency in his home state. The full text of the resolution has not been released as of April 29.
