The tribe has launched its own radio station, which will broadcast music and public information programs. KUYI, broadcasting on 88.1 FM, is the result of five years of planning and fund-raising. It debuted Dec. 27 with a program featuring Hopi Tribal Chairman Wayne Taylor, Hopi Foundation Chairman Doran Dalton and Frank Blythe, executive director of Native American Public Telecommunications Inc. Broadcasting at 69,000 watts, KUYI's signal is expected to reach all of the Hopi reservation, Winslow, Holbrook and parts of Flagstaff, as well as Gallup, N.M.
