We are pleased to announce that Grand Canyon Music Festival’s Native American Composer Apprentice Project has been selected as a 2010 Coming Up Taller semifinalist by The President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
With 459 nominations from across the U.S., NACAP’s selection as one of 50 semifinalists distinguishes it as “one of the top art- and humanities-based programs in the country.”
The innovative program allows young Hopi and Navajo students the opportunity to create music under the direction of professional Native American composers and have their work presented by world-class performing ensembles. The Coming Up Taller awards will be announced in June and presented by First Lady Michelle Obama later this year.
There will be a Native American Composer Apprentice Project concert on Sept. 12. For more information, visit our Web site at grandcanyonmusicfest.com or contact Trevor Reed, public relations manager, directly at GCMF@infomagic.net or (646) 450-2851.
Word count 700-800 for use in an A&E section, deadline is July 16.
