The Nation's efforts to establish jobs and programs in the area have been recognized in receipt of the Black River Falls Rotary Club's annual Community Service Award. In making the presentation to Nation President Jacob Lone Tree this spring, Rotarian Mike Anderson noted the Nation is the largest employer in Jackson County, providing nearly 1,000 jobs of which two-thirds are filled by county residents. Anderson said the Nation's construction of a $5.2 million waste treatment facility allowed construction of the Jackson Correctional Institute which provided 250 jobs. He also noted that during 1999, the Nation contributed $80,000 to Jackson County businesses and organizations. Since 1995, the Nation has given more than $3 million in charitable contributions, loans and grants to more than 80 organizations throughout Wisconsin, Anderson said.
