WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Gov. Kenny Guinn of Nevada, a Republican, is scheduled to be in Washington today to file his congressionally sanctioned veto of the Bush administration's plans to build a high-level nuclear waste facility at Yucca Mountain.
Yucca Mountain is approximately 90 miles from Las Vegas.
Congress does have a 90-day legislative period in which to sustain or override the veto. Katherine Q. Seeyle of The New York Times said in the April 9th edition that despite the veto those opposed to the Yucca Mountain facility were facing "an uphill climb" against the administration, the nuclear industry, the military and the governors of other states that have nuclear facilities.
