Governor slips by Apache Homeland protesters after interviewing commission candidates

Gov. Bill Richardson showed some slick moves Wednesday, avoiding a group of about 40 protesters representing the Apache Homelands Entertainment Center in Akela, located 20 miles east of Deming. The protesters, many with signs reading: "SAVE THE JOBS" and "PROTECT THE PEOPLE," were waiting for Richardson in the parking lot behind the Luna County Courthouse, 700 S. Silver Ave. while he interviewed applicants interested in the vacant Luna County Board of Commissioners' seat.
