Tina Fey's beloved, often brilliant series 30 Rock aired its last episode in January 2013, and fans of smart TV sitcoms have been longing for the writer-actress's return ever since. With Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, they'll get their wish, partially. Fey is not (at this point) booked to appear on the series, which will debut in 2015, but she is involved as a co-creator, executive producer and writer. Kimmy Schmidt is regularly referred to as "Tina Fey's new show," and 30 Rock devotees have been heartened by the news that Jane Krakowski has been cast as a series regular. The title character, an ex-cult member starting over in New York City, will be played by Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids, The Office).
You know who else will be on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Gil Birmingham, one of Indian country's hottest actors, who gained notice as Twilight's Billy Black, and has become a recurring presence on House of Cards and Banshee.
On his popular Facebook page, Birmingham shared photos from the set, with generous praise for his colleagues:
Birmingham with Tina Fey: 'What a total joy working with the likes of this inspiring Queen of comedy!'
Birmingham with Jane Krakowski: 'Another deft and beautifully congenial lady of comedy.'
Details of Birmingham's involvement are, like details of the series as a whole, unknown at this point. He may have been called in for a cameo, or he may be a recurring character. The show's page at NBC.com is keeping it vague (Krakowski isn't even mentioned), but as the premiere date approaches we may have more information.
