Gahcho Kué Mine Project Ready for Environmental Review

Right on schedule, the diamond companies De Beers Canada Inc. and Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. have filed an environmental impact statement for the proposed Gahcho Kué Mine.

The companies submitted the document, which outlines construction plans for the mine and lays out details of how they will operate it sustainably, to a panel established by the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Review Board.

De Beers’ acting chief executive officer and chief operating officer Chantal Lavoie called it “a major milestone for the Gahcho Kué Project,” while Mountain Province Diamonds CEP Patrick Evans hailed this as being “another step closer to realizing the Gahcho Kué Mine as a reality."

Evans noted that Gahcho Kué would be the fourth diamond mine permitted in the Northwest Territories and the third Canadian one by De Beers.
