Foxwoods named among world’s best golf resorts

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. – Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine has recognized Foxwoods Resort Casino as a “World’s Best Golf Resort.”

The magazine’s readers’ survey, now in its fifth year, chose Foxwoods among the top three destinations in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions in the “Best Resorts for Buddy Trips” category.

The standards for top status are both obvious and subtle, according to the magazine’s Web site:

“So many elements go into an ideal golf vacation. Above all, the courses must be exhilarating and the accommodations first-rate. But there are also less obvious aspects of the experience: skilled and engaging caddies, a state-of-the-art practice complex, a lively clubhouse bar stocked with history as well as craft beers and single malts. In our annual reader survey, we sought your discerning opinions not only on which resorts are the game’s finest destinations but also on which ones excel at these and other details.”

Foxwoods and the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods are owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

The resorts’ two golf courses – one public and one private – are located at the Lake of Isles, directly across the street from Foxwoods’ main entrance.

Lake of Isles was designed by renowned golf course designer Rees Jones and features two championship 18-hole golf courses that are managed by Troon Golf.

The golf courses are spread over 900 acres of natural Northeastern woodland hills that surround a 90-acre lake.

Lake of Isles features a year-round golf academy for players of all ages and abilities and indoor and outdoor practice facilities. A 50,000-square-foot, architecturally acclaimed clubhouse offers banquet facilities for meetings, weddings and receptions, as well as a lakeside tavern for casual dining.

The golf courses have received numerous awards, including “Best New Upscale Public Course” by Golf Digest and “Top Ten New Course You Can Play” by Golf magazine
